Labradoodles were originally a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Standard Poodle, providing the foundation stone for building the Australian Labradoodle, which is now a breed of their own! They are sociable, friendly, non aggressive, and extremely intuitive. Their intelligence and high trainability make them well suited for guide dogs, therapy dogs, and other assistance dogs. Their non allergic coats make them popular among people who have not been able to enjoy pets because of their allergies. The Fleece coat has a distinctly soft fleecy feel unlike any other dog coat. It hangs in loose loopy spirals. The Wool Curly coat resembles that of a poodle and feels like a soft woolly sweater.
Miniatures are 14 to 16 inches tall. Mediums start at 17 inches in height. The Labradoodles coats come in a variety of colors including: Black, Silver, Cream, Apricot, Apricot Cream, Chalk, Gold, Red, Chocolate, and Cafe.
As with most breeds of dogs, Labradoodles will usually live for about 13 to 15 years, with exceptions in both directions. Labradoodles promote the vigor and longevity of the breed. The IALA is currently writing Labradoodle Standards and Guidelines to help pet buyers select their puppies, and breeders select quality foundation stock to expand and strengthen their kennels.
Our foundation female, Maggie, was purchased, as a puppy, from Springville Labradoodles in the spring of 2006. Her coloring is light red, the soft curly fleece coat that is so desired. She is quiet, yet very sweet and loving. Our foundation male, Cosmo, was purchased, as an adult, from Rivermist Labradoodles in 2007. His coloring is apricot with light red highlights, also the soft curly fleece coat that is highly desired. He has adjusted really well to our family and we love him dearly. He is very playful, yet extremely well behaved. We have had two litters, so far, and with the mating of Maggie and Cosmo, they have produced puppies in just the colors we were hoping for, red, cream and apricot.
